Charley Clay
(August 4th, 1928 – September 13th, 2020)
Charley Clay passed away at Ekstein Hospice Center in Scottsdale, AZ. on September 13th, 2020. Charley was born to Lemuel Mitchell Clay and Margaret Dolan Clay at a home in Fort Lupton, CO. on August 4th, 1928. He had siblings Jim, Marguarite, Nina, Helen, Dora, Bill, John, and Keith. When Charley was a child the family moved to Ansley, NE. He attended high school in Ansley and then became an auto mechanic in Broken Bow, NE. where he met Emma Lou Smith. They were married and had 5 children: Linda, Jackie, Cindy, Mike and Charlene.
Charley served in the Army during the Korean War, SFC (T) and the Army Reserve. After the war the family moved from Broken Bow NE. to Greeley, CO. He was an auto mechanic, then a Transportation Supervisor for School District 6 for over 20 years. He also worked for the Boulder CO. School District, and Indio School District.
Charley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greeley, CO. and Northern Hills Baptist Church of Texarkana, TX. He was a Master Mason in good standing of Border No 672, and also loved fishing, camping, bird hunting, and gardening. He was a member of VFW Post 12943 in Maricopa AZ. Charley also enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts during his lifetime.
Charley was preceded in death by former spouse Emma Lou Clay and spouse Ardyce Clay, brothers Jim Clay, John Clay, Bill Clay and sisters Dora Nansel and Marguarite Gustin. He is survived by siblings Helen Dye, Nina Cole, and Keith Clay.
He will be missed by his children Linda Clay, Jackie Nolan, Cindy Clay Cole, Michael Clay, and Charlene Clay. Grandchildren Anselm Huggins, Clayton Huggins (deceased), Leland Huggins, Henry Clay Cole, Amber Martin, Darrel Dupper, and Ethan Clay. Great Grandchildren Emma Martin, Paige Martin, Liam Huggins, Kadence Dupper and Harley Dupper.
Due to the pandemic there will be no service at this time. A memorial will be held at the Clay family reunion in April 2021. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of the Valley.
